Wednesday, April 25th, 2012: At Sea between Fiji and American Samoa
Bob:
The Gentle Reader may have noticed that we have two days of Wednesday, April 25th. That is not a misprint, but rather an artifact of the International Date Line. Remember that day we had lost on our flight out to Australia? Well, this was the day we got it back! In fact the Captain instructed all of us to set our clocks forward one hour, but the date back one day. If that isn't confusing, I don't know what is!
The reality of the matter is we had a sea day between Fiji and American Samoa. We were surprisingly busy, consulting with the Future Cruise Consultant in the morning to set up an open booking for a future cruise, then dropping into the Cha-Cha dance class, practicing the songs for our recital and then singing in the Pop Choir, all before lunch.
After lunch I napped but awakened just in time to attend the Arts and Crafts workshop, which was limited to 100 passengers. We decorated some postcards, gift bags, and greeting cards with the wide variety of South Sea themed decorations she made available. That was fun, but we had to break off ultimately to attend the port lecture on Pago Pago, our next port of call.
I learned a lot, most importantly that our nascent idea to take a bus to the beach and swim would be unpredictably dangerous as a high surf was running on shore and the beaches all had undertow and riptide problems. Sigh. But Pago Pago itself looked like it might be an interesting town to wander around, so we decided to do that.
We decided to forgo the evening's entertainment, a hypnotist, as we were already getting very sleepy and our eyes were getting very heavy. Instead, we just retired to our room to read and write for a couple of hours before bedtime.
