Transatlantic Cruise from Cobh, Ireland to St. Johns, Canda: September 17 - 21, 2015

[Bob] We now had five days at sea and Monika hoped that would be enough R&R to get over her cold. We decided to take it relatively easy, which meant no dance lessons and no walking on deck, which are otherwise two of our favorite activities. But we did go to a few lectures where we could just sit and listen, which were all quite good. Two in particular stood out about the history and future of the Panama Canal.

We also did some of the low-energy activities that the staff put on, like the "paper airplane" competion: You get two sheets of 8.5 x 11 inch white printer paper, have 15 minutes to make one or two paper airplanes out of that paper, and then try to throw it from Deck 7 through a hula hoop suspended as a target on Deck 6 over the atrium. Neither of our airplanes came anywhere close, so we did not get one of the coveted Princess passport holders, which were the awards.

[Monika] Bob also signed up for the egg drop challenge, which consists of dropping raw eggs in the atrium from Deck 7 down to Deck 5 and using either parachutes or cushions or both to have them land without breaking the shell. For the next few days, Bob was consumed with making different parachutes and landing cushions. He purloined a hard-boiled egg named "Cecil" as his test egg for fitting everything together and doing some practice drops, but he couldn't steal any uncooked eggs from the Lido buffet, so the big question was, "It worked for Cecil, but would it work for a raw egg in the final competition?"
