Our home away from home for the next two weeks was in the little seaside resort of Haffkrug. The apartment building was across a street from the Baltic Sea and when we walked to the bakery in the morning we could see the sun rising over the Baltic. The sun also painted a ruddy glow on one of the original old thatched roof beach bungalows that was on our route.
Detlef's condominium had a very nice bedroom and a large room with a small efficient kitchen, a dining area, and a living area with TV and a large picture window looking out over a meadow and some woods.
The meadow was home to many different animals, including a family of deer, a pair of pheasants, and even a Great Blue Heron.
Each day we would ride our e-bikes to go shopping or to visit nearby towns. The beach runs for miles both North and South from Haffkrug, and between the beach and the road is a pedestrian promenade. While walking or riding our bikes, we enjoyed the panoply of interesting things like lifesaving stations, beach chair rental kiosks, and even honest-to-goodness sculptures! Art!
But each evening we would come back home, have an evening snack, put up our weary legs, and enjoy the beautiful sunsets in the meadow to the West.
