Tuesday, December 18th, 2012: At Sea between Bermuda and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
Bob:
After a long, restful night's sleep, we were up before dawn, took pictures of the sunrise, and hit the buffet shortly after they began breakfast service at 6:00 a.m. Afterwards we checked our email accounts and got change from the Purser for doing some laundry. The Pacific Princess had only one laundromat on Deck 7, and we figured it would get very busy during our last two days at sea. So we tried to squeeze our load of laundry in right as it opened for the day at 8:00.
The Plan For The Day included ballroom dance class review with Peter and Chloe at 10:30, the auction of the Navigational Chart for the cruise at 2:00 p.m., and shortly thereafter the Arts and Crafts@ Sea session which was "Wine Corks and Key Chains".We reviewed waltz, cha-cha, and meringue with Peter and Chloe.
The auction of the Navigational chart was folded into the last art auction on the Pacific Princess. We were willing to bid $100 on it, but that was the opening bid and it quickly ratcheted up to $260, which was a bit too rich for our blood. Some of the other pieces were being sold "as is" for fairly reasonable prices, but our walls are already crowded with our travel pictures and nothing struck us as so excellent that we would devote our coveted wall space to it.
The Arts and Crafts session at 3:00 p.m. was making a key chain from a ring, a cork, and some thread. This was my first time for macrame knotting, so I'm not sure it was done quite right but I did end up with a knotted tail for the key chain that included the cork, on which I had written all the ports-of-call for the cruise.
I also spent a half hour or so backing up the pictures that we had taken up to Bermuda. The panoramics taken from the top of Gibb's Hill Lighthouse turned out particularly well. We had a final Captain's Cocktail Party just before dinner. The main entertainment turned out to be the Captain's 2-year old son with moppet hair who would dance up a storm on the dance floor and then run back to be with his mommy. You can't get any cuter than that! We also danced a slow foxtrot, and the tiny tot was out there looking at us adults with intense concentration. He said his name was "Lewis Lawes" with perfect enunciation.
Right after the cocktail party we had another pleasant meal with Chris, Tina, David, and Pat.
After dinner we did take in the final production number, "Do You Want To Dance", a sequence of energetic, well-choreographed, and exhausting (for the dance troupe) numbers. I was a little depressed about the cruise coming to an end, but that cheered me up and we went to bed directly afterwards.
