Wanderung 20

Australian Walkabout

May - June 2009

Sunday, June 21th, Day of Rest in Hornsby.

Bob:

Although Neville was game to try to be up and about, we were really a bit worn out and opted to have a quiet, relaxing day in Hornsby. I tried to catch up on the journal when we weren't watching rugby games or enjoying classical music, and we both caught up with our email. It was also fun to discuss a bit with Neville the types of things he wanted to do when he came to the U.S. and visited us in late July.

We did take some time out to walk around Hornsby a bit and go shopping. We stocked up on the licorice bullets covered with dark chocolate because we really didn't think we would find those back in the U.S., but we were also seduced by a couple of very nice bookstores. On the plus side, we found some great deals on books about Australia including a just-published biography of Kingston-Smith, who was essentially Australia's Charles Lindbergh. Neville treated us to a great big compendium about all the regions in Australia that turned out to be a marvelous resource for planning our next journey Down Under (Wanderung 22). The only downside was fitting that all into our luggage, which took a bit of time later in the day. But finally it was all done and we sadly ended our last full day in Australia.

Monika:

We decided to spend our last day in Australia having one last shopping trip in the Westfield mall and otherwise just relaxing with Neville. Of course there were rugby games to be watched and classical music to be listened to. But then we did finally pack.
